Thank you for visiting our blog!
Today I’m sharing a beautiful beach session I did at Hammonasset Beach in Madison this past fall. Bindi’s mom reached out about capturing some images of Bindi playing on the beach, as well as photos of them together and a few family photos with her parents. We had so much fun watching Bindi run around and play, always right near her family. She has such a sweet and gentle personality, but is also super playful and loved running around in the sand and water. It was such a joy working with this family and I’m thrilled with how their images turned out!
Hi friends! It’s that time of year again! Oats and I have decided to continue our fun holiday card tradition which will hopefully bring an extra smile to your face this holiday season. We will send a (very cute) Oatsy holiday card to anyone who would love one this year! All you have to do is tell us where to send it. This year’s card has lots of Oatsy photos because we all need as much cheer as we can get this year!
Simply email me at jennifer@withloveandoats.com with your name and address (and your pet’s names if you have pets!) by this Thursday, December 10, 2020, and we will get some Oatsy goodness coming your way. You can also check us out on Instagram or Facebook and send me a message in either of those places.
In return, we ask that you do one random act of kindness for someone this holiday season. Let’s keep spreading love!

In case you missed it, I just published a MASSIVE list of dog-friendly businesses in Connecticut, and you definitely want to check it out if you love bringing your pup with you on adventures. It’s yours FREE when you enter your email address! This is an extremely comprehensive database of dog-friendly places that welcome your dog in our state.
Since I’m sharing these awesome local businesses with you, I want to also make sure I mention some important information about bringing your dog out with you to other people’s businesses.
Today I’m sharing another one of my favorite fall sessions from last year! Matt and Chris live in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston with their adorable corgi Benny, and they invited me up to meet them at their home, where we walked only minutes to an amazing park that circles Jamaica Pond. Since our original session got rained out and we had to reschedule for mid-November, we weren’t sure we would still have fall foliage. We ended up finding not only beautiful foliage, but also an awesome huge leaf pile for Benny (and his dads!) to play in, and we even got lucky enough to see a few snow flurries. I had the best time with this wonderful family.
Since the autumn season is almost upon us, I wanted to share some of my awesome sessions from last fall to give you some ideas and inspiration for your own fall sessions! This was one of my favorites from last year, with the sweetest model and gorgeous fall colors. I only book a limited number of sessions each month and autumn is my busiest time of the year, so if you’re interested in scheduling something while the leaves are beautiful, reach out today!
With Love & Oats Photography has always been about more than dog photography. It has always been imperative to me to talk about equality and love for all, racial injustice, climate change, and other topics that I care deeply about. There has never been a question for me that Black Lives Matter. The very first image for the With Love & Dogs Project that has become my soul work began with that statement. It is a personal value for me, and my business will always stand for it. However, I have not done enough.
Over the past couple weeks I have been working with all my current clients to reschedule sessions booked before and during the last couple months when I was unable to hold sessions due to the pandemic. I am so excited to announce that I will be starting sessions again beginning on June 1st! If you’re ready to book your session, I’m ready to work with you! Here are all the steps I am taking to ensure your safety during our session.
I'm so excited to present the very special project Oatsy and I have been working on putting together for you over the last several weeks. These photos were taken in 13 towns near our home in Connecticut. While it begins with a few of the darker messages of this time, I wanted to show you that there are so many more beautiful displays of love and community, helping us remember to see the light in the darkness.
As 2020 progresses, we will all be adjusting to a temporarily new way of life, with social distancing to most likely continue for many months to come. With these new changes, I want you to know how I’m working hard for you and that I’m not going anywhere. I also want to let you know what changes I’m making in my business so I can be a resource now and continue to best serve you when we can start our sessions again.
Today I want to talk about something I do for Oats every day, twice a day, that has made a world of difference in her life, and is something any dog owner can (and should!) try. The main reason dogs are overly hyper or have behavior issues is because they are bored. Just like humans - they have incredible brains that need to be stimulated. Dog owners often attribute these issues to a lack of exercise, but that’s not the only thing dogs need to thrive.
Physical exercise for dogs is vitally important, yes. But mental exercise is often overlooked as an essential part of a dog’s well-being.
I’m so excited to introduce you to the sweetest little pupper that recently came for a playdate in the studio in February. This session was purchased as a Christmas gift for my amazing client’s dad because he and Bo have a very special bond. We focused a lot on them together but the whole family got in on the session as well, which is my favorite thing! Bo was so sweet and fun and I had such an incredible time with this family!
Dear Friends & Family,
In this uncertain and difficult time, I wanted to reach out and give you some updates about what we are doing to support our community and to send our love and safe wishes to all of you.
First, I will not being seeing clients for sessions at this time. I am staying home and doing my part. However, if you were considering booking a session for later this year, please do not hesitate to reach out. I have plenty of time to chat with you right now about what you're looking for and how I can make that happen for you. I am happy to answer questions, chat about your pets and all the different options, Zoom to show you artwork, etc. For any sessions booked now through April 30th (to be scheduled later), I will be donating 10% of the session fee to Feeding America as a way of saying thank you for supporting my business and to continue giving back to the community when it's most needed.
While things are very uncertain in the world around us, one thing we do know is that smaller businesses are being severely impacted by this worldwide health crisis. This is unprecedented, and something no one plans for. I’ve been brainstorming some ways we can continue supporting local, without even leaving our homes, and I hope that if you are able to spend money, you’ll make an effort to still spend locally when possible. If you’re not able to spare any money right now, I’ve included several FREE ideas for how to continue supporting small businesses, local artists, libraries and non-profits during the coronavirus shutdown.
With spring fast approaching, it’s a great time to start thinking about your spring dog photography session. If you’re considering something unique, you’ll want to book very soon to take advantage of a couple limited-time-only photography opportunities! Book a fun beach session in March or a gorgeous cherry blossom session in April. Both only available for specific dates so don’t wait to book!
I had so many incredible sessions this past fall season, and I was so busy that I’m just finally sitting down to share them with you! This session took place in early October, when we still had so much beautiful green in the trees with just a hint of yellow starting to pop in. Madison wanted some images of her sweet Sydney, who is such a beautiful and sweet 11 year old pup. She’s a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Saint Bernard, making her gorgeous with some very unique features.
I am so excited for the new year and to continue work on my studio passion project, With Love & Dogs. My business saw its busiest quarter ever this past fall and holiday season (thank you!!) so my project was temporarily put on hold. This winter and spring I will be working hard on this project, and I’d love to work with you and YOUR DOG!
I received almost 60 applications for the contest, and I loved reading through all of your stories and learning about your dogs and why you were excited about the With Love & Dogs Project.
So many of your stories touched my heart and I hope I have the chance to meet all of you and work with all of your dogs someday. Today, I’m introducing Sadie, who was one of two winners of a free studio session. She was such a sweet girl and I loved getting to know her and cuddle with her. She was amazing during her studio session and I had so much fun working with her and her parents!
This year I introduced holiday mini sessions in the studio and it was a huge success! I had 8 dogs in the studio and we had so much fun creating fun and festive holiday images for holiday cards, Christmas ornaments, holiday decorations and prints. I only offered a limited number of time slots and they all filled up within three days, so I can’t wait to offer even more next year.
Winter is (almost) here and the snowy season has begun! If you love the unique beauty of winter and your dog loves playing in the snow, this is a very special time of year to plan your dog’s outdoor session. I only take a limited number of snow sessions per year, so get on the wait list now!

So many of your stories touched my heart and I hope I have the chance to meet all of you and work with all of your dogs someday. Today, I’m introducing sweet Mia the miniature pinscher, who was one of two winners of a free studio session. She was such a sweet girl and I loved getting to know her and cuddle with her. Last week for my birthday, I took off for a few days of (mostly) unplugged relaxing at the wonderful dog-friendly Getaway House with Oats. Getaway is a company that has created communities of tiny homes that are off the beaten path, located about an hour outside of major cities across the country. We chose the one that’s outside of Boston, which ended up being in southern New Hampshire, a little over 3 hours from where we live in Connecticut. It was a lovely drive and easy to find.
Earlier this summer I had the pleasure of meeting George and Gracie and their wonderful parents for a beautiful evening at Brooksvale Park in Hamden. We’d had to postpone our session three times for rain and thunderstorms, so I was so happy to finally meet all of them and get to play around with sweet George and Gracie. They were such a fun family and I loved the personalities of these two lovebugs.
(See the end of this blog post for a before and after collage of how I made this image happen)
Looking for something fun to do with your dog this fall? I’ve compiled a list for you of some awesome upcoming events all over the state that are dog-friendly and fun and benefit many wonderful local organizations.

Plus I’ll have lots of artwork and album samples to check out if you’d like to see and touch some of my heirloom products in person. (If you’re wondering where I’ll be, look for the pink “VISIT ME AT THIS EVENT” graphics below.)

I had so much fun with this whole family, hiking through the woods and then watching these sweet pups play around in the fields in a beautiful spot in Glastonbury. Lilly and Emmie are two gorgeous chocolate labrador retrievers that have the same mom and dad, and were born in litters one year apart (how fun is that?!?). They look so much alike that I had a hard time telling them apart in some of their images!
