The Full Service Photography Process

frequently asked questions

+ Should I book an outdoor or studio session?

Outdoor photography is a fun, adventurous way to capture your dog's personality in their most natural setting. We can do the session in your own yard or at your favorite park or beach, and really let your dog play and have fun. These sessions are great for getting candid and action shots, while still getting some beautiful posed images as well. If your dog isn’t the best at sitting in one place and really likes to run around and play, this is the best session for you!

Studio photography is a classic, modern way to highlight your dog's personality and expressions. We can create simple portraits, holiday photos, birthday "cake smashes" and more in studio. It's best for dogs that can sit and stay for a bit, and great for when the weather is too hot or rainy to be outside. Studio sessions are about 40 minutes and are held at a beautiful barn studio in Killingworth, CT.

If you’re still not sure which one is best for you and your dog, please let me know! I’m happy to chat about your dog’s personality and let you know what I think is best.

+ Where will our session take place?

For outdoor sessions, it can take place at any location of your choosing! It can be a favorite park or trail or even your own backyard. If you're not sure, I can help you choose a great place. I am located in Central Connecticut so I have dozens of excellent places within my area. I am also available for travel outside my local area. A travel fee may apply, so just ask if you’re unsure!

For studio sessions, I work at a gorgeous studio space in Killingworth, CT.

+ What can I expect during the session?

Lots of fun and laughter! I'll start by getting to know your dog and letting him or her warm up to me and my camera. Then we'll walk, run, play, swim, roll around and be silly together to capture all the things you love most about your furry best friend. I'm not afraid to get dirty to capture an awesome shot. I may ask you to help get your dog's attention or have them sit if you'd like some portraits, but the session will be relaxed and fun to allow you and your dog to truly enjoy the precious moments I'm capturing on camera.

+ What if my dog can't be off leash?

No problem! This is very common and your dog's safety is my top priority at every session. If your dog needs to be on leash or we are in a location with leash laws, I can easily remove the leash during the editing process.

Studio sessions can also be a great option because your dog can be off leash during our private studio time. If you’re not sure which session is right for you and your dog, let me know! I’d be happy to discuss both options with you and figure out which is best.

+ What if my dog doesn't know any commands?

That's ok! I've worked with dogs that never sit or look at me once during their session. I work with each dog individually and capture them doing what they love, even if that doesn't mean looking at my camera! Plus I have some tricks up my sleeve for grabbing the dog's attention.

+ What if I can't make it to my scheduled session?

No problem! Just let me know as soon as possible and we can reschedule. Session fees are non-refundable (so I can hold your time slot) but we can reschedule the session if something comes up. Outdoor sessions can be rescheduled up to 48 hours prior your session and studio sessions can be rescheduled up to 72 hours prior to your session.

+ What if it rains or snows for my outdoor session?

Rain and snow photos can be really fun and unique, so I am happy to still to hold the session if you and your dog are comfortable (I own plenty of rain gear and warm clothes!) However, in the event of extreme weather I would suggest we reschedule - it can get tough to keep the camera dry when I'm rolling around with your pup!

+ Do you photography outside year round?

Absolutely! All four seasons in New England make very beautiful backdrops.

+ When will I get to see my photos?

Because each and every photo I present to you is professionally edited, I will schedule your Viewing & Ordering Appointment for 2-3 weeks following our photo session. At that visit you will be able to view the edited photos from our session and we can work together on choosing the right products and prints for your home.

+ Are digital files included?

For all images you choose to print or purchase as artwork, I will also provide you with social-media sized jpeg files. That way you can share them on Facebook, Instagram, and with your friends. High-resolution digital files can also be purchased at your Viewing & Ordering Appointment.

+ What should I bring to my session?

TREATS/TOYS: I'll have healthy treats and fun toys to give your dog a fun experience and grab their attention. However, if your dog has specific allergies or favorite toys, I will recommend you bring your own treats for the session and pack their favorite toys/balls, etc.

COMFORTABLE SHOES: If your dog is active, we'll probably be walking or playing quite a bit. Since I'll be holding my camera (and probably treats and toys!), I'll need you to hold your dog's leash and be with us during the session. Dress like you're ready to have fun!

PROPS/BANDANAS ETC (OPTIONAL): If you have specific items you want your pet to be wearing, sitting on or playing with, let me know ahead of time and we will make sure those items get incorporated. I am fine if your pet is naked (as we call it in our house!), but if you'd like a colorful bandana or silly hat, we can make that work too!
